Chapel 10/30: A Relationship with the Son

This week Doody Baker came to talk to us about the Son. It was our first chapel about the Son in our ongoing theme of the Trinity. He opened by talking about how the word “relationship” in today’s society has a distorted definition. He told us that Jesus doesn’t want a casual “easy” relationship with us, as demonstrated by the easy button. He referred to John 17, where Jesus is praying before he is arrested. In John 17, it talks about how Jesus prayed for himself, for his disciples, and for future followers. In this passage he prays for his disciples not as servants, but as friends. He also refers to John 15:4 where it says, “Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.” He talked about how Jesus came to earth from His heavenly throne to show us everything he has learned from the Father. He closed by referring to John 15:15 that says “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.”
