‘Twas the Night Before Finals

“Twas the night before finals, and all through Fort Wayne

Students were studying, cramming their brains.

The phones are turned off and the coffee is drank,

in hopes that their minds won’t suddenly go blank.

Students were sleepy, but none were in bed,

Because visions of math problems danced in their heads.

The homework they ignored piled up to the ceiling,

thankfully they are saved by Google searching.

As they looked at their grades they knew they were sinking,

Hoping that coffee would loosen their thinking.

In every home, students are pacing,

Dreading the exams they soon will be facing.

Facebook and Twitter, give feelings of temptation,

All that it will be doing is earning our citizenship in the procrasti-NATION.

Instagram, Vine, and Trivia Crack made me hungry for an evening snack.

“Some food might help,” I said feeling clever,

But no food in the fridge, and Taco Bell doesn’t deliver.

I stared at my notes, but my thoughts were all muddy,

My eyes went a blur, I just couldn’t study.

I came to the conclusion that my teachers are cruel,

With my future depending on my final grades in school.

When all of a sudden, I fell fast asleep,

Now finally some rest, it sounded so sweet,

when, what to my ears is the terrible, awful sound?

It sounded like a whale had given birth to a hound.

I opened my eyes and to there I did see,

It is my stupid alarm clock beeping at me.

I got up and convinced myself to go to school

I had not really studied at all, my grade ain’t gonna be cool.

It’s 8am and students are running,

Getting to class early for last minute studies.

The teacher comes in and takes the attendance,

There’s bound to be someone who decided to be absent.

He gives his last good-lucks and hands out the test,

All the students are worrying and thinking in their heads,

“On Cliff Notes! On Spark Notes! On last year’s exams!

On Wing-its and Dang-its, and last minute crams!”

The first question is confusing and so in the next,

I can’t wait for this to be over, I’m done with these tests.

From the books to the notes, we’ve studied it all

We can ace this exam, we aren’t going to fall!

Think about Christmas Break and all of the rest,

Happy finals to all, and to all, a good test!
