Boys’ Baseball

Blackhawk’s baseball team currently stands at a 3-3 record. A .500 winning percentage isn’t bad, but this team has much higher aspirations than being average. The Braves have lost 2 straight games, both by a score of 2-4, to Northrop and South Side. Even though schools like these are much bigger than Blackhawk, the boys know that they are a very talented team. and they expect to stay neck with much larger schools.

Senior Nathan Targgart, a Taylor University commit, noted, “It’s been a little bit of a disappointing start to my senior season. We’ve lost to a lot of teams we should have beaten, but I think we have a good team and that we can start to turn it around.” Targgart is the clear-cut leader of this team and looks to get the Braves back to playing good baseball. Targgart is closing in on Blackhawk’s all-time record for career home runs, and he is licking his chops at the chance he has to claim that BCS record.

Coming off of a Regional title in 2014, the Braves have big shoes to fill, but many key players on this year’s team were a part of the very successful squad from last season. Targgart, Riley Reimschisel, Sam Rykard, Bailey Sheldon, and Kole Barkhaus are a few great players who can right the ship. This team has a very high ceiling considering its load of talent, so we’ll see if the Braves can play up to their lofty hopes.
