It’s not a resolution- It’s a life change!

Chapel began this week by Lydia Flegge introducing the speaker Dave Souers. Dave centered his message around the concept of people needing to be reprogrammed. We often find ourselves getting distracted by life and going through the motions. As a result, we should recalibrate and focus more of our time and attention on God. Dave gave us three steps to guide us through the process of reprogramming our lives to be focused more on the Lord.

The first step he gave us was that as exiles, we need to be uncomfortable for God’s glory. An example of this is in Luke 9:57, “As they were going along the road, someone said to Jesus, ‘I will follow you wherever you go.’ Jesus doesn’t think the man knows what he is getting himself into. Jesus explains that if he wanted to follow Him, then he wouldn’t have a home either. The man realized the discomfort he would have to face and backed out of being a follower of Jesus. All of that to say, being a follower of Christ requires going out of your comfort zone by taking the extra step to give the glory to God.

The second step we can take to reprogram our lives requires our allegiance. It is easy to make God a second priority to our everyday schedules. Therefore, we should cut down on distractions such as social media. Another subject that Dave mentioned was that we never start. We tend to say we will start reading our Bibles and going back to Bible study, but we never get around to starting. While what Dave said is true, we can still make a change by working towards completely devoting our lives to Christ.

The final step Dave gave us is that we need to do something. We need to put effort into our relationship with Christ by living out our purpose. God put us where we are for a reason and we shouldn’t waste our purpose by being lazy. Dave closed out in prayer and challenged us to refocus our lives on God by making Him our first priority.
